These General Terms and Conditions of Entry apply to all visitors to Wingspan National Bird of Prey Centre (“Wingspan”, “we”, “us” or “our”). By purchasing admission, making a booking or entering the Wingspan premises, you agree to comply with these Terms and Conditions, together with any reasonable instructions, safety requirements and signage provided by Wingspan. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits or excludes any rights or remedies that visitors have or duties or liabilities Wingspan has under New Zealand law.
1. Admission & Tickets
a. Admission is subject to availability and payment of the applicable admission fee.
b. Tickets are valid only for the date and, where applicable, the time specified at the time of purchase.
c. Tickets must not be resold for commercial gain without Wingspan’s prior written consent.
d. Wingspan reserves the right to refuse admission or ask a visitor to leave the premises where there is a reasonable cause to do so, including where a visitor’s behaviour poses a risk to themselves, other visitors, staff, or birds.
e. Admission prices and ticket conditions may change from time to time. The price applicable to an existing confirmed booking will not be increased after purchased.
2. Cancellations, Refunds & Changes to Booking
a. Wingspan’s cancellation and refund policies may vary depending on the type of ticket, booking or programme purchased. Any specific cancellation conditions applying to a booking will be provided to the customer at the time of purchase.
b. Where a visitor simply changes their mind or is unable to attend, a refund or transfer is not necessarily available unless provided for by the applicable booking terms.
c. Where Wingspan cancels or materially fails to provide a service that a visitor has paid for, the visitor may be entitled to a refund or other remedy depending on the circumstance and their rights under New Zealand law.
3. Animal Welfare
a. Wingspan is a working wildlife facility and home to live birds of prey. Some activities may involve birds flying, landing or moving close to visitors. Animal behaviour can be unpredictable, and visitors must follow all instructions given by Wingspan staff and comply with all signage and safety requirements.
b. Visitors must not bring animals or pets onto the premises unless expressly authorised by Wingspan (please contact us regarding assistance dogs). Animals must not be left in vehicles.
c. Visitors must not enter an animal enclosure or restricted area without authorisation.
d. Visitors must not touch, feed, harass, or otherwise interfere with any of the birds, unless specifically instructed or permitted by a Wingspan staff member.
e. Visitors must not attempt to attract or interact with birds by calling, whistling, waving objects or otherwise deliberately distracting them.
f. Visitors must not place hands, fingers, food, or other objects, through enclosure barriers or in areas where birds are present unless authorised by Wingspan staff.
g. Wingspan reserves the right to temporarily close or restrict access to areas or activities where necessary for animal welfare, staff safety, visitor safety, weather conditions, maintenance, biosecurity or other operational reasons.
4. Biosecurity
a. Visitors must comply with all biosecurity measures and instructions in place at Wingspan.
b. Visitors must not bring sick, injured or dead wild birds or other animals onto the premises unless expressly permitted by a Wingspan staff member.
c. Visitors must not enter restricted areas or attempt to handle or assist wildlife at Wingspan without prior authorisation.
d. Additional biosecurity measures may be introduced without notice where required to protect Wingspan’s resident birds, staff, visitors or the wider bird population.
5. Visitor Conduct
Visitors are expected to behave respectfully and responsibly while on the premises.
The following are not permitted:
Wingspan may ask anyone engaging in unacceptable behaviour to leave the premises without refund.
6. Photography & Filming
a. Visitors are welcome to take photographs and videos for personal use, subject to any restrictions indicated by Wingspan staff or signage.
b. Photography or filming for commercial purposes, including those taken as a reference for artwork, is not permitted without prior written approval from Wingspan. Wingspan may impose reasonable conditions on approved commercial photography or filming, including restrictions relating to animal welfare, visitor privacy, staff operations and intellectual property.
c. Photography and filming must not interfere with staff, animal welfare, demonstrations, other visitors or operations.
d. Images of any raptors at Wingspan must not be isolated or manipulated in any way without prior written approval from Wingspan.
e. Visitors understand that Wingspan and its agents may undertake filming and photography for promotional purposes during their visit and agree to notify staff on arrival should they not wish to feature.
7. Personal Belongings
a. Visitors are responsible for their own personal belongings while visiting Wingspan. Visitors should not leave valuable belongings unattended.
b. If lost property is handed to Wingspan, we will make reasonable efforts to retain it and reunite it with its owner.
c. Except where required by law, Wingspan accepts no responsibility for loss, theft or damage to personal property arising from circumstances outside Wingspan’s reasonable control.
8. Accessibility & Assistance
a. Wingspan aims to provide an enjoyable and accessible experience for all visitors.
b. Visitors who require assistance are encouraged to contact Wingspan before their visit so that reasonable arrangements can be discussed.
c. Some areas or activities may have physical or operational limitations. Wingspan will endeavour to provide accurate information about accessibility where reasonably practicable.
9. Food, Drink & Smoking
a. Visitors must comply with any restrictions applying to food and drink in animal areas or other designated areas.
b. Visitors must not feed Wingspan’s birds unless expressly authorised by Wingspan staff.
c. Smoking and vaping are permitted only in designated areas, where provided, and are otherwise prohibited on the premises.
10. Weather & Operational Changes
a. Some Wingspan activities and facilities may operate outdoors and may be affected by weather, animal welfare considerations, staff availability, maintenance or other circumstances beyond Wingspan’s control.
b. Wingspan may modify, suspend or cancel activities where reasonably necessary.
c. Where an activity is unavailable, Wingspan will endeavour to provide reasonable notice where practicable.
11. Children & Supervision
a. Children and young people must remain under the supervision of a responsible adult unless participating in a programme where Wingspan has expressly accepted responsibility for their supervision.
b. Parents, guardians and supervising adults remain responsible for ensuring that children follow these Terms and Conditions and all instructions given by Wingspan staff.
12. Health & Safety
a. Visitors must take reasonable care for their own health and safety and ensure that their actions do not adversely affect the health and safety of others.
b. Visitors must comply with all reasonable safety instructions, warnings, barriers and signage.
c. Visitors must immediately notify a Wingspan staff member of any accident, injury, hazard or safety concern they become aware of.
d. Certain areas of Wingspan may contain uneven ground, steps, natural surfaces, weather-related hazards, animal-related hazards or other risks associated with operating a wildlife facility. Visitors should exercise appropriate care and follow all safety instructions.
e. Visitors should consider their own circumstances and abilities when participating in activities and should notify Wingspan staff if they require assistance.
f. To the extent permitted by law, Wingspan is not responsible for loss or damage arising from a visitor’s failure to follow reasonable instructions, warnings or safety requirements, or from a visitor’s own acts or omissions.
13. Changes to These Terms
a. Wingspan may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time.
b. The Terms and Conditions applicable to a visitor’s booking are the version provided or made available to the visitor before or at the time the booking is made.
c. Wingspan may introduce or amend reasonable operational, health and safety, animal welfare and biosecurity requirements where necessary to respond to circumstances arising after a booking is made. Visitors must comply with such requirements while on the Wingspan premises.
d. The current version will be made available to visitors through appropriate Wingspan channels.
