Our New Journey

Wingspan is growing and has relocated to a new site.

Thirty years has seen Wingspan grow from a small grassroots project to New Zealand’s leading bird of prey centre. This growth calls for a new space designed to support further research, boost breeding success, aid rehabilitation efforts, expand education programmes, and increase reach to new audiences – ultimately improving outcomes for our birds of prey.

In 2018, Wingspan relocated to the ancestral lands of Ngāti Whakaue at 1334 Paradise Valley Road and embarked upon a new journey. Thanks to significant contributions from community trusts, corporate sponsors and private individuals, we have completed the first two stages of a mammoth project.

The final stage, the visitor centre – or Wharenui – is yet to come. And we need your help.

Follow our journey as we prepare the way forward – creating a wonderful new bird of prey centre.
