Flight of the Falcon

Flight of the Falcon
Learn all about the threatened kārearea, New Zealand falcon, a species rarer than kiwi and found nowhere else in the world. Find out what Wingspan is doing to restore their populations and advocate for their protection. Witness demonstrations of the age-old and modern-day falconry techniques we use to train and rehabilitate these magnificent birds. We often have other special guests make an appearance too! This is a unique experience you won’t find elsewhere in New Zealand and one you won’t soon forget.

FLIGHT OF THE FALCON TERMS AND CONDITIONS

These Terms and Conditions apply to all visitors attending the Flight of the Falcon (“show”) at Wingspan National Bird of Prey Centre (“Wingspan”, “we”, “us” or “our”). By purchasing admission, making a booking or entering the Wingspan premises, you agree to comply with these Terms and Conditions, and the General Terms and Conditions, together with any reasonable instructions, safety requirements and signage provided by Wingspan. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits or excludes any rights or remedies that visitors have or duties or liabilities Wingspan has under New Zealand law.

1. TICKETS:
a. Tickets cover entry to the show and access to the aviary viewing area following the show on the date specified on the ticket.
b. The show has an approximate duration of one hour. However, the actual duration may vary, and the show may conclude earlier or later than scheduled due to staff availability, bird behaviour and welfare considerations, weather conditions, or other circumstances beyond our control.
2. EXPERIENCE DETAILS:
The content of the show, including birds featured and training techniques demonstrated, may vary at any time due to staff availability, bird behaviour and welfare considerations, weather conditions, or other circumstances beyond our control.
3. VISITOR CONDUCT:
 a. Visitors must follow all instructions given by Wingspan staff and comply with all signage and safety requirements.
b. Tickets do not guarantee the opportunity for close encounters with the birds. Birds may, at their discretion, fly or land in close proximity to visitors at any time during the show.
Visitors agree:
i. Not to touch, feed, harass, or otherwise interfere with any of the birds, unless specifically instructed or permitted by a Wingspan staff member.
ii. Not to attempt to attract or interact with birds by calling, whistling, waving objects or otherwise deliberately distracting them.
4. BIRD BEHAVIOUR & WELFARE:
a. Visitors recognise that birds of prey are predators and that natural hunting and predatory behaviours may occur unexpectedly at any time during the show.
b. The birds are trained to participate in the show but remain animals with their own instincts and autonomy, and their behaviour and responses may vary. On rare occasions a bird may choose to fly beyond the designated display area or remain away from the presentation for a period of time. Visitors acknowledge that birds may choose not to perform a particular behaviour or may respond differently from what is anticipated.
c. The welfare of our birds is our highest priority. We reserve the right to alter, limit or cancel any experience where we consider it necessary to protect the welfare of a bird.
5. WEATHER, CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS:
a. Cancellations made at least 24 hours prior to the show are eligible for a refund. Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance are non-refundable.
b. The show is weather dependent. In the event of heavy or persistent rain, or wind conditions that are considered unsuitable for the safe operation of the outdoor show, and where reasonably practicable, an indoor experience in an alternative format will be provided in place of the outdoor show. No refunds will be given in the event of adverse or unsuitable weather conditions, where the indoor experience can be provided. If an indoor alternative cannot be provided and the show is unable to proceed, a refund will be offered.
c. No refund will be provided where visitors arrive late, leave before the conclusion of the show, or do not attend.
d. No refund will be provided where specific birds, behaviours or training techniques are not included in the show.
e. In exceptional circumstances, Wingspan may, at its discretion, approve a refund. Where a refund is approved, a $25 administration fee will be applied.
6. GROUP BOOKINGS:
Groups of 10 or more are recommended to book and pay at least 7 days in advance. Group bookings are non-refundable once confirmed. This advance booking allows Wingspan to reserve sufficient seating and manage capacity.
